Merchant Capital launches first Ucits fund

Merchant Capital has launched a new Ucits fund concerned with large cap equities in the markets of states of the former Soviet Union. The Russian Phoenix Ucits fund launched on July 2 and mirrors the long/short product strategy of the group's existing Spectrum Russian fund, managed by Spectrum Partners Group. The fund will be available on the Merchant Capital Ucits platform and has $40m (£24.9m) in assets under management. The fund is the first of five Ucits funds proposed by Merchant Capital, which are expected to begin trading before October 2011.
